is 65-inch 4K UHD smart TV—in Sony's flagship Master series of OLED TVs for 2021— delivers top-notch picture quality and an effective HDR experience, making it one of the best TVs we've tested this year. The main differences between this model and the less expensive A80J-series set is that it has a backlit remote control and a bit more audio power. Both series support HDR10, Dolby Vision, and HLG HDR formats. This year, Sony is touting a new "cognitive" processor that can analyze and cross-reference thousands of picture elements—the way people do—to improve picture quality. In addition, the set's unique "Acoustic Surface Audio+" sound technology—which uses vibrating actuators that turn the entire panel into a speaker—delivers great sound quality. While Sony doesn't offer a Filmmaker Mode, it does have both IMAX Enhanced and Netflix Calibrated modes. Also new this year is a move from Android TV to the new Google TV smart TV platform, which integrates live TV, movies, and streaming services into a single interface. It offers access to Google Cast for streaming from mobile devices, and has Google Assistant built in. It will also work with Amazon Alexa, and supports Apple AirPlay2. The A90J sets come with an ATSC 3.0 tuner for receiving "Next-Gen TV" signals, a feature many other sets lac

The Sony A90J is an amazing TV for mixed usage. It delivers exceptional picture quality for movies and TV shows, and its near-instantaneous response time results in smooth motion for sports and video games. While it doesn't get as bright as an LED TV, it's bright enough to bring out most highlights in HDR, aided by its near-infinite contrast ratio. Unfortunately, there's a risk for permanent burn-in, though it shouldn't be an issue if you watch varied content.
